Moving is not easier just because you are moving locally. A local move still requires a lot of planning, which is why you need to have a plan for your move.

Tip #1: Get Packing Supplies Together

The first thing you need to do is get your packing supplies together. You are going to need to purchase packing tape, scissors, markers, and labels. You are also going to need boxes. You can purchase specialty boxes for items like paintings and dishes. Some moving companies will give you boxes for free. You may even be able to collect moving boxes for free from local businesses.

You are also going to want to collect packing paper, bubble wrap, and newspaper for wrapping up the items you will be moving. You may be able to collect some of these items from others instead of having to buy all these items.

Tip #2: Work to Declutter

Now is the time to declutter. You are going to want to go through each space of your home and figure out what you don't want to keep.

As you go through the things in each room, think about when you last used an item. If you don't remember when you last used an item, or it has been more than six months since you used a non-seasonal item, it may be time to let go of the item.

You can donate the times to a charity, or you can resell the items. The key is to let them go before professionals transport it to your new home.

Tip #3: Pack in Stages

Third, you don't need to pack all your items all at once. Packing everything all at once can be overwhelming and unsafe. Start packing in the rooms you don't use that often, such as your garage and your utility room. Then, pack up the items you use the least in each room.

For example, you can pack up the decorations in your bedroom and all your out-of-seasons clothing. Work on packing up out-of-season items and decorations that you don't need. As you get closer to your move date, pack up the items you use more.

When it comes to a local move, get your packing supplies together. Then, work on decluttering your home. Finally, work to pack your home in stages, starting with items you don't use that often. When it comes to the actual move, bring in professionals to help you get the move done effectively.
